The story of The Grand Victorian

How we got here
From George W. Layton's Home to The Grand Victorian
Of the pattern-book houses Allen built in the area, the George W. Layton house received the most ornate program of ornament. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 23, 1982, as one of the most distinctive Victorian pattern-book houses in Utah, noted for its brick and wood ornamentation and its unaltered, well-preserved condition.
By 1989 the property was virtually abandoned. The Stevenson family saw the beauty and significance of the house and began restoring it, beautifying the home and the landscape and making it their home.
In 2002 the Wood family purchased the house and transformed it into a wedding venue: The Grand Victorian. Since then it has been the venue of choice for over one thousand couples, along with other celebrations, retreats and special moments.
In 2019 Jason and Melissa Helquist purchased The Grand Victorian and, with Jason's sister Valerie, assembled a team of professionals and raised the standard. Under new ownership since 2024, The Grand Victorian remains committed to honoring the legacy of this historic home while providing a luxury experience to the couples of Utah.
